Saley Hama - 7 years old
Makalondi, Niger

Saley had club feet. He was operated on in 2006 but had complications on his right leg where the plaster was too tight and was cutting off his circulation. Saley had to have part of his leg amputated.

The surgery to correct the club foot on his left leg was unsuccessful, however, his family failed to follow through on the porst surgery treatment so his leg began to twist slightly.

He is now being treated at Hope House under the careful watch of CBM.

Enthusiastically testing out his new walker, Saley appears to have forgotten the recent traumatic events that left him with one leg.

If CBM had not found Saley, he would be like many other children who don't have the surgival intervention - no school, no employment then poverty.

Now Saley has hope for a better life. His grandmother said, "Without CBM we could not afford to pay for treatment. Thank you to those who are helping."



Ramatou Mamadou - 17 years old
Koirategui, Niger

Ramatou dreams of two things, "to stand up, and to get my father out of poverty." She lives with her father, a farmer, in Koirategui and she cannot walk.

"My friends stay and read with me. They don't play running games because I can't run and so I wouldn't be happy. My friends always take care of me so I don't miss out." Not everyone is so accepting. Many people threaten her because she is disabled.

An operation will allow Ramayou to walk again. She is afraid of surgery, but determined to change her life. CBM can change Ramatou's life.

To help ease her fears, CBM will talk her through the process and refer her to others who have been through the procedure. CBM can also provide rehab, physio and surgery. Once she is walking, CBM can provide vocational training and a loan for business.
